Seeds of Solidarity Funding Drive
As conditions continue to deteriorate in Sudan and Gaza, it is our duty as workers of the land to stand in solidarity with those experiencing the brunt of colonial violence. Together, Guelph 4 Palestine and 65 farmers accross Turtle Island are launching the Seeds of Solidarity Funding Drive.
As people who work with the land, we know the abundance the earth can provide. Together, communities of food growers, land workers, medicine makers, artists and other food community members are funding towards two vital campaigns to support food sovereignty in the face of genocide.
We are raising funds for (1) WE MUST PLANT (@sudaneseresistancefront @sudansolidaritycollective). A grassroots initiative by the Gezira and Managil Farmers' Alliance and supported by organizations like the Sudan Solidarity Collective and Sudanese Resistance Front. (2) REVIVE GAZA’S FARMLAND (@apnorg). A project by the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, aiming to rehabilitate Gaza’s agricultural sector and restore local food systems to combat famine and counter the blockade.
Between the 65 farming organizations, our goal is to raise $25,000, which will provide significant support to each initiative. 100% of our proceeds from this event will be donated to this cause.
Join us for Lunch & Cover Cropping Red Poppies
Join us Saturday November 22nd, noon - 4pm for a light lunch in our greenhouse followed by cover cropping red poppies on a portion of our seed farm adjacent to our nursery. Why red poppies? As the national flower of Palestine, red poppies symbolize the Palestinian people's connection to their land, the colors of the Palestinian flag (red, green, black, and white), and the blood of the martyrs within this land. Poppies also play a vital role in agriculture in certain parts of the Middle East and carry a long, complex and often hidden history in Pakistan.
We will gather on our farm to broadcast these seeds as a way of remembering all of the martyrs in Gaza and Sudan. We invite you all to come back in the Spring to witness the poppies in full bloom. We hope our red poppy fields can be be a reminder of our resilience and still the work needed to be done in our fight for revolution.
Our afternoon together will include a fully vegetarian lunch, dhol drumming, and cover cropping on the land. Please anticipate wet and muddy conditions. If you wish to participate in cover cropping please wear boots you are ok with getting muddy, extra socks and shoes and a rain jacket. Our greenhouse will remain open for anyone interested in staying warm and dry.
PLEASE RSVP BY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 19th so we can have an accurate head count for food. This is a private event with limited capactiy. Please accuratly indicate how many people are in your group when registering. At this time we ask to not share this event with your network until our immediate community has a chance to RSVP.
